Site selection

How to Grow Murrayana

 Preparation of land

Although Kamini (Murraya) can be grown in different types of soils, but sandy loam soil with proper drainage is considered best for its successful production.

After deciding the suitable place for planting Kamini (Murraya)  plants, the land is prepared. First of all, the upper 40-50 cm of the soil is dug and turned over. It is kept in the sun for a few days. After this, 45-60 cm deep pits are dug at the place where the plants are to be planted. The soil taken out from these pits is removed. If the plants are to be planted nearby, then to save labour, a long trench of 60 cm depth can be dug instead of separate pits. Pebbles, stones, weeds etc. should be removed from the dug soil. Large lumps of soil should be broken and made soft. Before filling these pits, sufficient amount of well-rotted cow dung manure should be mixed in the soil. After this, at the places where the plants are to be planted, pits of size 90 x 90 x 45 cm should be made and the plants should be placed in them and pressed into the soil to make it hard.

 Suitable time for planting

The suitable time for planting Kamini (Murraya) saplings is 'August'. If irrigation facility is available, then it can be planted in the month of February-March also. Irrigation should be done immediately after planting (Kamini) Murraya saplings so that the plant gets established well.

Applying fertilizers

For proper growth and development of (Kamini) Murraya  plants, proper amount of fertilizers and manures should be used. The work of applying fertilizers and manures should be done before the onset of rains.

Irrigation and Weeding

As mentioned earlier, irrigation should be done immediately after  planting (Kamini) Murraya plants. Thereafter, irrigation should be done at intervals of few days. By doing this, the growth and development of plants takes place well. Irrigation can be stopped during monsoon season.

Weeding should be done after every irrigation. By doing this, the soil becomes friable. Apart from this, weeds are also prevented. The growth and development of plants also takes place well. Special attention should be paid to weeding during rainy season because in this season, weeds grow rapidly, and the growth and development of Kamini plants is adversely affected.

 Care

Newly planted Kamini plants do not require any special care in the first year. If some plants die due to some reasons, new plants should be planted in their place. Till the plants regain their previous growth, it is good from the aesthetic point of view to fill the space between them with one-year flowering plants. Because this makes the space look full and not empty till the permanent plants are small.

How to Grow Murraya Plants

Timely pruning of well-established Kamini plants is essential. After the winter is over, the plants need proper care, mainly in the month of April. At this time, its dry and unnecessary branches should be pruned. Very old plants should be cut from very low so that new growth can be stimulated in them. Apart from this, pruning and training of plants is also essential to provide them beauty. The scissors or knife used for pruning should be sharp so that pruning can be done easily and quickly and the plants are not damaged in any way.

After pruning, the plants require more nutrients. Hence, at this time, they should be fed with a lot of rotten cow dung or compost so that Kamini can produce more flowers.

If Kamini plants are pruned carefully every year, the attractive appearance of the plant remains and the beauty of the garden is maintained.
